Hello all! My name is Charles. I am a US native (Massachusetts by way of North Carolina). I have lived in the DR for 5 years now. It is definitely "home" but, of course, there are things I miss in the States! Happy to be a part of this group!
Hello folks! My name is John and am originally from England. Emigrated to the Toronto area of Canada in 1988 with my wife and 2 little girls. Then my wife and I sold up and moved to Sosua DR almost 2 years ago.
I am also one of the co-founders of the new DR property listings website MLS-Dominican,com.
So please check our site for property sales and rentals and let me know if you have any questions.
Welcome to the forums. John I will suggest you add it to our business listings in the Classifieds as wel please.
Welcome Charles! 5 years here you are no longer a newbie!
@planner
Lol. No, not at all! But there are always things to discover!
Hi all. Not sure if im doing this right but i hope im putting this message on the correct platform lol.
I currently live in the uk. I have bought a property in the bavaro area. It is still being built.... was suposed to be completed in december last year but hey ho i know how these things are always never on time. The thing is i am not planning on moving there just yet as i need to work in england still. I dont know anyone over there a d have no idea how to open a bank account or get the electricity etc set up. I will go over once it is finished to furnish it. But that is another obstacle. I want to furnish from ikea but can only be there for 2 weeks at a time and only twice per year). I fear i havent really thought this through as i dont know anyone
Welcome to the forums. I had your other post made into its own thread honey! Many of us can help you feel more comfortable with the whole process.
My name is Rose and I just invested in a house that is being built as I type in Punta Cana. My contractor is very respectable and has plenty of projects around the La Altagracia (province) area, so I trust him.
They broke ground September 1st and it's moving pretty fast.
I was told that the home will be completed in September 2025 but by the looks of it, I think it will be way sooner, which is fine.
I plan to semi-retire. I will be in Punta Cana 4-5 months out of the year because I still need to tend to my business here in New York City and continue to add to my nest egg. I'm sure I could do some consulting when in DR but I'm not sure how to get hired since I'm not a spring chicken anymore.
Work in progress.
@Francescamunroe
i hope it all falls into place for you friend . i will say this , you selected a good place to plant roots . the DR is paradise , with a few road bumps along the way. Thank goodness , there are many people on this site that will help you navigate the bumps. planner , chris and others have been here ahile and are amazingly kind and helpful. you will be fine.
@Julien
Hi everyone!!!
My husband and I are from The United States and are interested in purchasing a condo in Cap Cana, Punta Cana. We plan on retiring in a few years.
We have visited the area twice. We want to get to know the area and fellowship. We are thinking about renting first, but are open for a good opportunity for buying and investing. We were wondering if buying and renting when we are not using the condo is helpful to pay yearly housing expenses or for investment in this area.
Welcome to the forums. Use the search function as this has been discussed multiple times. And keep us updated on your progress.

Hello Denise,
We are moving in Jan to the DR and wanted some advise regarding which shipping company to use from Miami and what to expect to pay at customs for our container and the car we are bringing on the container.

Hello! My name is Kawanna. I’m 49 divorced mother of 12 year twin daughters. I’m a Doctor of Mental Health and a serial entrepreneur who resides in VA near Virginia Beach. I travel to DR 6-8 a year. My retirement home in Vista Cana will be completed in 2026 at which time I will semi retire and spend the at least 6 months of the year in the DR until my twins graduate in 2030. When my girls graduate, I plan to fully retire and reside in DR 8-10 months out of the year. My plan is to invest more in DR real estate for short and long term rentals and to enjoy a peaceful retirement in the DR.
@Julien
Thank you all for the opportunity to be part of these group!
I'm planning to move to DR in 2 years or less. I’m in the process of purchasing a villa in Macao and will need furnishings!
I look forward to my new beginnings!!

Hello everybody,
My wife and I are planning to retire in PC next year end of summer, beginning of fall. We currently live in Raleigh, NC and looking for the Caribbean lifestyle. We like to play golf, water sports, working out, and try different restaurants.
Cheers,
Arnold
Hi,
my husband and I were born in the Dominican Republic, however, we live in NY for the last 40 years. We are considering living in PC/DR at least part time in the next 5 years. I am a CPA and hoping I can continue to work from the DR part time.Â
we are currently looking at options and what that would look like for us.
Welcome to the forums! You will have a different perspective then most expats. We look forward to your feedback and comments as you go through your process!
Hi everyone, great to meet you virtually!
I’m an HR professional born and raised in New York to Dominican parents. My elderly parents, who have been in NY for 45 years, are planning to spend about half the year at their home in Moca, DR. My father, especially, is eager to enjoy more time there.
We travel to the Dominican Republic every year, so it’s not like we’re going in completely blind. However, this will be their longest stay (the first of many), and I want to ensure their time is as stress-free as possible. I’m looking for advice and recommendations to help make their stay relaxing and enjoyable. Since their home and family are in Moca, I want to do everything I can to support them.
I’m sure things will come up as they prepare for their trip next summer, so I’d appreciate any feedback or tips!
Thank you all in advance for your help!

Hello, I am currently living in North Carolina. I recently purchased some properties in Punta Cana. I have found this forum to be very helpful. I have started sending private messages to obtain more information on property managers, and furniture. I will continue to read through the forums for information. I will be sure to add any valuable information once I become acclimated to the Altagracia area. Please feel free to private message me with any information you may have. Thank you. Katrice
