Hi - I am a soon to be expat. Will be moving to Sabana de la, Mar area.

I am ex-military - Coast Guard and Navy. As such, I woukd like to share with other service-connected expats, that I was able to find out that we have access to free-of-charge medical services in the capitol and in Punta Cana. Your wives also qualify if you are 100% service-connected. This is through the Meds4Vets program.

There's also another program available to service-connected veterans only (not wives) in Santiago via the iWellness Veterans Center.

Hello! I'm Carlo from NYC originally, but moved here from Maine, where I've lived for the past 10 years. I've been here about 3 months so far, first in Las Terrenas, now in Punta Cana, and soon to be in Jarabacoa. I've updated my profile here /forum/profile.php?id=3845739 but my story is that I got a bit fed up with corporate life (BCG alum) and big tech, and decided to take a chance on re-engineering my life around quality of experience as much as possible.

So far, my experience has been fantastic. Everything in life is about weighing various tradeoffs, and I've found the tradeoffs here to be more than acceptable. Certainly a learning curve, but I love learning! I'm currently doing in-depth market research to identify potential opportunities here with an eye toward leveraging my 2+ decades of experience in entrepreneurship and consulting to create something sustainable. Other than that, just been studying (I study philosophy and religious studies) and acclimating, all of which is going well. I'm also very into photography and filmography and I'm hoping to put that to use here making little mini-docs and so on about life here.
