Work Remote but live in Italy - Medical Supplies issues

vbcrockford

Hi, So I have a bit of a dilemma.. So I want to go to live in Sicily with my boyfriend who is from there (has an indefinite contract there already and works as a Nurse in a hospital).

Now, I am from Malta and I had the Stoma bag in February 24 (cause of Crohn's). So from here (Malta) I do get the medical supplies and treatment every 2 months. Should I move to Sicily, how difficult would it be, if I find a remote job and start to pay taxes and Ni there? How long till I start getting supplies from there?

Or,

Can I live there and come to Malta every two months to get supplies (pay taxes and NI both in Malta and in Sicily)?

I really need some information as I have been trying to contact the consulate of Ragusa but my emails keeps getting blocked.

If someone went through this and found an answer please let me know.

Thanks

Veronica

Hi, Good luck with your plans. Does your Maltese Insurance/Health care transfer within the EU, assuming yours is an EU PP?

You would need Italian assicurazione sanitaria for a family doctor and prescriptions, which is now 2000 euros per year.  Or a work contract.

There is no consulate in Ragusa,  if you are already there, go to the nearest ASL and ask them what your options are.

To be honest, Id go back and forth for the first year or so and see how you get on.  If your other half is a nurse, he can probably get a friendly doctor to prescribe for you, but until you are inscribed in the register you wont qualify for the ticket to get it discounted.
