I am planning to apply for residence in Bahrain through the Investment in Property category, which I believe, does not allow you to work in Bahrain.  My question is then how does medical coverage work as you are not employed?

a) Is there a minimum national health coverage under which my wife and I would be covered for government hospitals

b) Do I need to buy private medical insurance and if so how much is the cost  ( I know it depends on coverage extra - but I need a ball park figure.  My wife and I are both in early 50s with no pre existing conditions)

You can buy coverage yourself in Bahrain.  Speak to the different providers.   Cost will depend on what you want to be covered for.  The bare minimum for visa purposes will probably be around couple of hundred BD per person.  For myself, the quote was around 450 BD for a family of four but then again, I am younger than you and 2 of the beneficiaries were children.
