How long does it take to get NLV at Spanish Consulate in Toronto?

We mailed our application to the consulate last week and haven't heard anything so far. According to the consulate's website, it can take up to 3 months. Hopefully it won't actually take that long because living without our passports for 3 months will be a huge hassle.

Also, since the consulate in Toronto only accepts applications by mail, does that mean there is no way to track the application status? Normally you need a reference number on the receipt, which we do not have.

Appreciate it if anyone can share their experience getting the NLV in Toronto!

Like Cheryl has mentioned since the Spanish consulate is located in Toronto, you will have greater chances of interacting with members on the Toronto forum who had to go through a similar process with the Spanish consulate in Toronto
