Moving to NZ

MrsMac2018

Hey, myself and my husband (37 & 40) are looking to move to NZ in the next 12 months, I have lived abroad before for a 9 year period and love it, however it was easy to find jobs, apartment etc due to me still being in the EU I didn’t need a visa etc, my questions are to people who have moved from the uk to NZ are:
Where is best to move to?
Will I find my profession in NZ I’m currently a deputy manager in a children’s home for young people with difficult behaviours?
My husband is a 360 machine operator in drainage?
How do we go on about renting a property? We initially want to rent for twelve months,
How much money would be recommended to move over with?

Any help and advice would be hugely appreciated:)

Thank you

For your job - you will need to be in the bigger cities or towns. We're in Auckland and there are heaps of jobs within the family/ social welfare sector. I work in the sector so can attest to that.  Can's speak for your husband though. Good luck!
Money - it depends on you really. We moved with just about 10kGBP. My husband walked straight into a job so there was a salary immediately. We had our accommodation paid for for 1 month and we bought a car as soon as we arrived so didn't need much to start off with.

It's easy to find a place to rent. Be preapred for the houses here to be below the standard you are used to building wise. There is no central heating in most houses neither are they double glazed.

Thanks so much for the info :)

Hi Mrs Mac2018

i think the best place to start is the NZ Immigration Website. You will be able to find out what your options are  in terms of working short or long term i n NZ in your professions.

You should also talk to a few recruitment companies to get a picture of the job market. I found Job.co.nz useful to find relevant recruiters.

Good luck
