Information about Golden Visa program by nyyfan30

Hi everyone. Can anyone give me any idea of the timeline for obtaining a Golden Visa? I know I have to buy the property first, and THEN apply for the Visa. How long does it take to obtain the Visa once you have started the application? Is it ...

beijinho

You're quite welcome. For the regular (non golden) visa, some of the consulates in the US (dependent on where you live) do require proof of an address in Portugal. But a 6 month lease is less of a commitment than a huge capital outlay. Best ... Read More

Yes, it's easy, if you want to buy a 500 euro (600 USD) property without ever having lived here, knowing if you like it, knowing what the neighborhoods are like, etc. Real estate agents will be happy to show you properties that are more than ... Read More

Hello, the typical residential rental contract is 1 to 5 years. You are probably talking about vacation rentals, where landlords do better when they can rent short term at higher prices. As for income requirements, no one has been able to quote ... Read More

Are you planning to live in Portugal? If so, the Golden Visa is unnecessary. You can simply apply for a Residency Visa, with much less stringent requirements. The Golden Visa is for foreigners who don't plan to live in Portugal. Read More

Extending a 4-month Visa by GinneyE

If self-sufficient retirees from USA reside in Portugal for the four months allowed, can they then go to another Schengen-regulated country for 90 days? We'd like to live there for up to nine months, but it looks like getting visas for that long ...

beijinho

Only 3 months (90 days) within each 180 days is permitted Visa-free for USA citizens, and that refers to the entire Schengen zone, not just Portugal. So you cannot go to Spain on the 91st day. Read More

Gailpat, your timing is good in Algarve because it is the low season, and the short lease term would be mutually beneficial to both you and the landlord. However, if you are looking to eventually settle somewhere else (Porto, Braga, etc) you may ... Read More
