Living salary with family

Post new topic

ferhks2020

Hi all, fantastic forum, thanks to all the contributors.

I have an opportunity to move from Washington DC with my family to Riyadh but don't know if 40,000 SAR/Month would make me live in a good way with my wife and three children at elementary school.

Any advice from people living with family over there considering the price increase in the last months?

Many thanks in advance.

Hey mate, I'm really happy that you got this opportunity. The question that you're asking Is a bit tricky one you have to make your calculation on schooling, accommodation, and any other big expenses that you can think of create a spreadsheet and then work off some numbers The salary of 40,000 is not a bad one, but with expenses and the current taxes It’s all become subjective. The biggest expense in Middle East is the schooling. I’m going to move from Australia very soon and I have done the calculations like this as well. The only thing that might be different is that I have worked in Dubai before so I know the local environment a bit better the best bet for you is to go first check out the environment check out the costs and everything and then move. There’s a lot of opportunities in Saudia at the moment so you might be able to get a better opportunity once you’re there on shore.

All the best

@alisajjad86 Thanks so much for your advice, very helpful at this stage. I have evaluated some international schools, but definitely arriving earlier a couple of months to recognize the field before landing with family it's a must. 1f44d.svg

Hello, I'm not sure about the 40,000 SAR, but I've heard there is an expat housing shortage and housing rental prices have increased greatly. Maybe someone has more infor on this.

i can give you some idea but all depends on your life style ...

accommodation 2 bed+DD+2 Bath + Kitchen  start from 15k to 35K annually depends surrounding and luxuries. even though you can find furnished apartment starting from 1600 SAR to 5000SAR per month which includes electricity , water and internet.

Fiber connection 290/SAR at home 24/7

groceries including everything 2000 SAR for 2 persons.

schooling starts from 400 SAR to 2500 SAR per month, school bus 400 to 600 SAR per month per kid. or 1000 to 1200 SAR for private pick and drop service.

still i will highly recommend you to first get any furnished apartment and rent a car and do the survey by yourself.

people in all over saudia are very friendly and everyone guides you once you will arrive

so i wish you best of luck..:)

@ferhks2020 are u moving as a consultant? Which hospital? I am asking because some hospitals provide housing and funding for schools.

hadhirareem

it’ll be enough if you dont pay for school and get some kind of (rent) funding.

Hello, all

Is the 29000 SAR per month salary including free housing, kids schooling fees almost 28000 per year, transport allowance 7500 per year, good package for Associate Professor in Damam KSA ? At the moment we are in Scandinavian, Europe and planning to move to KSA by the end of 2024.

Your valuable input shall highy be appreciated.

Thanks

Cheryl

Hey abcshah88,

Please do not post more than one thread to discuss the same topic to avoid missing out on valuable insights across multiple threads.
