Marrying in Tunisia

Post new topic

xanthiawhite

Good afternoon,

I am English and marrying my Tunisian fiancé of 6 yrs in Hammamet on the 22nd December. We are booked into the British Embassy in Tunis on the 15th to swear my affirmation. How long does it take to get the certificate back? Can we get it on the same day?

Also I have just been told that my birth certificate needs to be renewed. How old does it have to be? We are flying out on the 14th of December. Just worried about time frames and getting it back in time.

Many thanks

Xanthia

@xanthiawhite congratulations 🥳

your birth certificate needs to 3 weeks old not and old one , I’m having same issue , I believe you get paper work back same day , I’m hoping to marry in tunisia at new year , I’m also English

I did my affirmation back in October, took about 45 mins to get the certificate.

You will need your partners ID or Passport and his residential address.

The birth certificate has to 21 days old from when you book your marriage, this is a requirement of the Tunisian authorities, there is no limit for the British Embassy.

If you ask you partner to speak to the Belediye, they MAY allow the birth certificate to be older, mine was a month old.

Also all your docs need to translated to Arabic, I translated mine into French and then had to do it again as they wanted Arabic.

@xanthiawhite Hi congratulations on your forthcoming marriage. I wish you all the best. Can you please tell me if it was difficult to get your appointment?.I too am English and hoping to get married in tunisa, in February. How did you find getting the appointment? Because everyday I look, and there is nothing for February. YET.Does my future tunisian partner , birth certificate have to be a new one too? It's mind blowing. All the documents needed. And the translation of documents, is for who? Really appreciate any information

Thanks Laina

@faith2014lt Congratulations to you too. 🥳🥳

Thank you for your info. Nothing is made clear🤣

xanthiawhite

@shaz3567 congratulations to your recent wedding. 🥳 Thank you for your info. I’m presuming the documents don’t have to be in Arabic for the Embassy? Just for the marriage.

xanthiawhite

@lainahudson thank you and congratulations to your forthcoming marriage.🥳🥳

yes it is a minefield all of this, nothing is made clear. They don’t release appointments until 28 days before the date you want.  So you need to look in January to book. As for the documents being in Arabic.  I’m presuming this is not needed for the Embassy just for the marriage. They need to be handed in a week before you get married.

lainahudson

Hi,Thankyou so much. Who do you give the documents to? And I believe we have to have a blood test, for whom? I appreciate all the information I receive.

shaz3567

@lainahudson Once you have your documents from the embassy you will need to get them translated to Arabic and take them to the local council, where you plan to get married, and book a date for the marriage. Both your partner and yourself will need to do some blood tests for sexually transmitted diseases, I got mine done in Alyssa Clinic Lac 1, close to the British Embassy and cost me 85 Dinar and got the results same day.

@shaz3567 Thank-you. We live in a big world 🌎. But sometimes we can feel alone 😔

fiance, could I please ask why does my birth certificate need to be only three weeks old and also have you had problems trying to get an appointment at the Tunis britsh embassy. i have been trying for ages now and cant seem to get anywhere with it. can i not go to the one in England to get seal of the issuing authority to get married? xx

xanthiawhite

Your birth certificate can be up to a month old. Mine was. you can only book the embassy I think a month to a couple of weeks before hand. Just  keep checking it and they will release dates & times. Hope this helps.
