Shipment of batteries

Post new topic

mike9k

Shipping batteries has become quite strict. Are there any shipping services who allow selection of the route they take to be only via land/sea? I have contacted sendon and eurosender about it without much success as they seem to rely on airplane who won't allow single or bigger lithium batteries. Any alternative services who transport from Europe to Malta via land/sea?

@mike9k yes Ive been there. Tried every which way to get a clear answer from both as you say they are unwilling to help out. Im assuming like myself you want to get something like an electric battery for a bicycle for example. I cant even get a power bank nowadays. My only solution is to have a large box of cells delivered to a friend in Sicily and then go pick it up myself with my car. With those I can build any size and shape of battery. Would appreciate letting me know if you manage to find some simpler solution

Try AliExpress, many of the battery suppliers on there, either 18650 cells or complete ebike battery packs will ship and generally they come by sea/land as airlines do not normally carry them.

AliExpress keep your money in Escrow until you have received your goods before they release payment to the supplier who will almost certainly be Chinese but the may well have a base in EU which saves you messing about with Customs etc.

May take a while but usually reliable.

Hi all.

There are issues around shipping electric batteries, in particular Lithium batteries.  Many countries will not accept them into their postal system because they cannot guarantee segregation from the distribution network that routinely uses air transport.

If anyone is interested, there have been 55 recorded incidents in the period 3 Jan > 8 Sep of this year, 46 of which were on passenger aircraft that routinely carry mail.

Next time anybody is tempted to buy a cheap replacement battery for their electronic equipment, they should consider why they are cheap.

I have considered the same approach of shipping it somewhere south of Italy possible a mail box or similar and get it from there. Will update in case I find an easier method.

Thanks for the suggestion. Not sure if I trust the full ebike battery packs from AliExpress. Will have to check a bit more but maybe shipping from China or the US is easier as I have seen shipping services from there with sea option.

Ok thanks, I will probably try AliExpress. I have found some shops there who claim to sell originals. From the picture they look the same. One shop ships even from France but they say air transport so likely won't work. But maybe one of the Chinese ones will be able to deliver it. Downside is all of them are more expensive.

My guess is those cases are mostly from outside Europe? They seem to block now pretty much any lithium battery here where something is off. Had even issues getting a simple fan with optional battery.

Best to look for ones with 4 or 5 star feedback and at least a few decent reviews.

I took one who has mostly 4-5 star ratings. Their default shipping was air parcel but had the option for aliexpress standard shipping which I hope isn't via air.
