The consulate in Manchester are very helpful but I think you have to go through the VFS Global website to apply now.

There is an embassy and consulate in London (probably in the same building).

You will need to buy or rent a property with a minimum 1 year lease before you can apply. It’s a huge leap of faith but if you have done your research and you meet all of the other criteria, it’s unlikely that you will be refused the visa.

I spent 6 months getting everything in place.

It's advisable to travel to Portugal and find a place you like.

Contact apartment people who let property and book your apartment for when you think you'll be arriving. They will give you confirmation of your booking.

What are you doing about the Comfort Letter you have to obtain?

We applied through the Manchester consulate, who are brilliant - we were also living in Devon! As another poster here has said, renting is a leap of faith (we had to pay 2 months rent in advance plus a deposit, which was just over one month's rental, for some reason) but if you meet the passive income requirements (hopefully, and then some!) you should be fine!

It's really worth ensuring that your paperwork is tip-top, though. We included Portguese translations of our statements, too, which might have been a bit OTT, but we got our Stage 1 approved in just 3 days after handing it all in, so you never know!

Good luck - it's hard work, and stressful at times (and we've got our stage 2 next week, so we're reliving the bureaucratic bit!) but really worth it.

just a couple of questions…….did you have you interview in Manchester ? Also how did you get

your documents transfer to Portugal?

we might need to rent first but we have 3 dogs do you think this could be a problem?

Hi Rob. I one of your posts you mention travel insurance. is this adequate for a D7 visa? many websites say it is not. Any details you could provide would be gratefully received as health insurance is proving the most dificult requirement kind regards Neil MacDonald
