NY Family moving to Lecce- need school for 6 year old

annazld0956

Hi all,

Hoping we can get some help here from others. We are moving to Lecce from New York with our 6 year old daughter. We need to find a school for her that is hopefully bilingual.

If anyone is aware of any educational institutions we would be most grateful.

Thanks so much!

Anna

Hi.  To be blunt, your expectations are out of line with reality.    Your child will be assigned to the local school and will learn Italian much much more quickly than you do.  it is unlikely they will even have a support teacher, given the current state of schools.   Unless you have a NATO base on the doorstep there will be no English speaking schooling available.   Children of incoming parents in my area usually can get by easily after a couple of months, within a year they are bilingual.   Being English speaking will make your daughter incredibly popular in school with all the students, but probably not with the English teacher who will be aware of her own poor level of English.

@Modicasa great, thanks for the feedback. Much appreciated. At this point it is more likely that we’ll be in Lecce part time. My hope was to find an English community to leverage for winter/summer breaks.
