Was the 2023 Mauritius Expat Guide helpful to you?

Anne-Lise Mty

Hello everyone,

We have just launched a survey about the last Mauritius Expat Guide and would be very grateful if you could take a few minutes to help us better cater to your needs in the next edition of the Mauritius Expat Guide.

Participating in the survey will only take a few minutes but it would really help us create a website that responds to the needs of our community in Mauritius.

.

Thank you.

Done with the survey. It's a very detailed and helpful guide. I had missed some of the information when I went through it the first time.

Yes, it's very detailed and helpful. Really great! I only miss some information or links on how to obtain mauritian citizenship.

Anne-Lise Mty

Thank you @tmsdilo.

@Novalis1 thank you for your insight. We'll be sure to include that info in our next edition. We will be writing up a guide article for our online guide as soon as possible.

Thank you!

It is not at all easy to obtain Mauritian Citizenship except through descent (or marriage to a citizen).

All the different methods (retirement for USD 1500 per month, purchasing of property for USD 375 000, employment, investment) only give you Residency - permission to stay long term in the country and unfortunately never Citizenship (a Mauritian passport).

Even after 10 or 20 years of residency, étrangers (expats) in Mauritius need approval by the President’s office to obtain Citizenship, so this hardly ever happens.

If you are looking for a Plan B / second passport, then the following are easier to obtain (read about many of these countries right here on ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ):

It is not President's office but the actual Prime Minister.

The former one( PM)  gave tin 2012 and  a Chinese investor who bought a campement for more than USD 500K.

The current one gave it to financial trader  Terry Smith after 3 yrs as a resident on the island effective 2014. Would  like to know how much FDI inflow Mr Smith did actually invest so that all doors were opened for him.

As far as Portugal is concerned be careful - they are planning to change the rules this year.
