Bali looking for place to live with wife

Post new topic

Digitarius

I am curious and seriously thinking of moving to Bali.  I have been there twice in the last 2 years.  I went to the usual crowded locations of Seminyak, Ubud and so on.  I was wondering if anyone knows of places to live that out off the beaten tourist traps. I am not sure where to start but someone did mention Denpasar but I have found anything on it yet.   Any suggestions would be grateful, thanks.

Fred

The first question is, "Why Bali?"

What are you looking for - exactly - not the dream because life is real.

I will be honest for the sake of transparency - I hate crowded places and can't stand drunken tourists and all they bring,  so Bali isn't for me.

@Digitarius

Have you thought about the islands off Bali like

Nusa Lembongan,  Nusa Ceningan and Nusa Penida

Bawaruba

@Digitarius well, i live already 7 years on bali and i prefer to stay in the north  lovina, quit, safe, green and space. Besides that living cost, house rent or buy are lower compared to the south. Oke  here we don't have a bowling, cinema butgreat restaurants, beaches, supermarket etc.

So if you want more info let's know

wyngrove60

I thought you were already living in Yogyakarta???

If you are settled on Bali then another vote for Lovina.

Digitarius

@Fred Bali is way more than drunken tourist and crowds.  There are other places to live outside of the normal crowded area like Seminyak and Kuta.

Digitarius

@Bawaruba yes definitely want more information, really appreciate the response.

@wyngrove60 I've been living in Yogyakarta off and on for 4 years.  It's time to move on.  My wife has constantly asked about living in Bali so I think I will give it a shot.

-@Digitarius

I went to the wrong places. The dumb tourists, and the messes that follows dumb tourists, were bloody awful.

Pimps, drug dealers, and a variety of general scammers have destroyed the place.

I gather the bits of Bali untouched by the tourist infestation are nice.

Digitarius

@shaunfindlay1976 actually no I have not.  I never heard of those islands. Do you have any further info on them?

shaunfindlay1976

@Digitarius  they are located just off the coast of Sanur a 15min fast boat ride from Sanur Harbour will take you to Nusa Lembongan the 2nd biggest island of the Nusa Islands.  I find the Islands a lot cleaner and definitely less busier.  Some say it's the Bali of 30 years ago

@shaunfindlay1976 do they have any services there, supermarkets and so on?  Which the best one to see?

Digitarius

@shaunfindlay1976 I looked up information on these islands Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida but I can't any information on expats living there.  All info I get is weekend getaway from Bali or week long getaway or a one day getaway.  What do you know about actually living on any of these islands?  I looks like Nusa Lembongan is the most built up of the three and Nusa Penida is the largest of the three.

shaunfindlay1976

@Digitarius

Yes they have supermarkets,  and all amenities.

Best to have a look at all the islands as my opinion could differ from yours.

If you like it I do have some apartments I'm selling on Nusa Ceningan

Fred

There are some things you should watch out for  when  moving  anywhere in  Indonesia.

Alfamart, Indomaret, and a modern market.

There goes everything you need for day to day living in this country.

If you're a minimalist, life is easy anywhere.  If you like the finer things in life, you need to be in a town or city.

wyngrove60

I also consider Nusa Lebongan as a place for weekend getaways and short stays or day trips. Beautiful place but I would never want to live there. Also I wouldn't buy a place unless you can see yourself living in that apartment for the next twenty years or however long the lease is for otherwise if you get tired of living on an island after a year you might also be looking to find a buyer to sell the lease to which I'm sure is very difficult.

Anyway, be careful about people (both locals and foreigners) who are looking to scam people by trying to sell them property.

Digitarius

@wyngrove60 I agree it doesn't like a place i'd want to live for years.  And I'm certainly not looking to buy a house on a lonely island.

Digitarius

@shaunfindlay1976 Yeah I would have to see it for myself.  It doesn't sound like a place to live for years and years and I am not looking to buy a house or apt on a small island.

shaunfindlay1976

No worries at all I'm sure you will enjoy your time on the islands for however long you wish to visit
