Brass Tacks....Could I survive in Izmir or Bodrum for $4000 US

Post new topic

BOSTON MAMA

Hello ALl,

As some of you wonderful may know we are seriously considering relocating to Turkey. My homeland is driving me to tears on a daily basis. But that is a story for another day.

Situation:
Mom, Dad, 7 year old boy & 4 year old girl. 1 large fuzzy dog (2y.o.)
We would like to RENT or SUBLET somewhere in Izmir or Bodrum where we would not require a car for every day living. My husband needs only reliable constant internet connection for his job.

We would like to be close to a markets and 45 minutes or less to the sea.

ANY advise at all would be so helpful. With the dollar deminishing its strength by the day. We would like to live within a $4000-4300 budget max.

IS this a fantasy???

Thanks,
Jennifer

sure you can choose turkey but before you make that big decision and drug your family i suggest come and stay for couple days (10-15 days)this way you can see if it is worth to live or how it is to live there

but i can easily say you can live with the mentioned budget in turkey specially with dollar currency against TL

Thanks Richard!

I love it, before I drug my family. Too funny. My husband was supposed to go to Turkey for 5 days, 15 days later he declared he loved it. He can not get over the friendiness of the people and the natural beauty of the place. And there is windsurfing.

I see you are back in the States. How long did you live in Turkey for? We just came back from 2 week in California. Nice place to visit.

Great! I can not believe we would be able to pay rent, utilities and still have money to EAT. All in the beautiful back drop of Turkey...wow.

Now can someone tell me if the Internet is reliable?

Hi
I am replying to this thread quite late but hope that i can help, i run a local International playgroup for the IWAI.I am British and have lived in Imzir for 5 plus years. You should contact and try to join the IWAI.If you have problems with thier website let me know and i will ask for you to be added to their mailing list you can ask other expat families advice.
Izmir is a great city to live especially if you are used to a relaxed way of life : ).
I would day though that not having a car will be tough...i dont have a car and public transport although great and very modern ( mostly) the journeys can be very long to get from one place to the next.
Will your kids be home schooled ?
