Where to live in Izmir with children?

My husband and I will be moving to Izmir in December with our young daughter. My husband will be working in Gaziemir and I will be working on my Ph.D. from home. Our daughter will most likely be attending MEF Izmir International School. We are looking at Guzelyali and Alsancak and I would like to know a little about each area. We are leaning towards Guzelyali because it is closer to and more convenient to drive to Gaziemir.

Any thoughts?
