Medical Recommendations Needed

Post new topic

Hi!

My husband and I live in Florida. We've been to Costa Rica several times, but are heading there again mid September to visit some more places where we might want to move.

During our visit, we would like to get information and obtain estimates for some medical things we would like to have done. I would greatly appreciate recommendations in the San Jose area re:

Surgeons - Hernia

Therapists that work with Autistic Individuals (our teenage son has autism)

Dentists - Implants/Crowns

Plastic Surgeons - Tummy tuck procedure

Thank you in advance :)

We have only ever used CIMA Hospital in Escazu. There, the customer service staff has been consistently helpful and prompt. If you Google CIMA, you'll find a general email address and phone number. You can expect the staff to speak English. The breadth of their specialty care is impressive. I had open heart surgery there last October and have no complaints save that the food was (sadly) about what you'd expect.

You might also Google "MediSmart in Costa Rica" or "Hospital Metropolitano in Costa Rica". MediSmart is a subscription service that offers substantial discounts when using their facilities and affiliated providers. The scope of their services is pretty broad and includes all or most medical specialties, pharmacies and laboratories, veterinary care, etc. The catch is that you must use their facilities and providers; there's no "in network/out of network" issue.

Friends have used Hospital Metropolitano and MediSmart for hip replacements, breast cancer care, and gallbladder removal and have only positive things to report.

I cannot comment on either the costs or the quality of service at the other private hospitals in Costa Rica.
