Selling a foreign car in Turkey

Post new topic

Cilcain

I brought my car from UK (a right-hand drive 2014 Volvo XC60) about a year and half ago, it was delivered by a shipping company which took about 3 weeks. Can I sell my car here in Turkey and go back and bring a newer one? Someone told me that I can only sell it to another foreigner. Is that correct? It has UK registration documents and the number plate. The guy at the customs told me that I can take it back home and sell it there, but that is not a feasible option. Anyone knows what my options are? Thanks.

Hi. I would be interested in buying it from your hand if you are interested. I am a foreigner from Canada living in Antalya. Let me know the price and the mileage. Thank you

@naveedm63

hi,

are you still interested in a car from The UK?

The car that you brought to Turkey from abroad cannot be sold or gifted by law. You can use it for 2 years or as long as your visa is valid (whichever is greater) and then you need to take it outside if the country.

How people buy cars in turkey ? for example brand new Mercedes?? they do also monthly payments ?? or you need to pay cash also ?

lldd11

@evelinfree25 same like anywhere else - you can have credit If approved by the bank, but that is for turkish citizens, If you foreigner you not gonna get any credit for any purpose, you can only buy car cash.

@Cilcain Depending on where you live you might ot not need a car, but getting over one from the UK seems strange to me, so bureaucracy, so much taxes, apart from the shipping costs. I had a nice car in Hungary, but I even not considered to drive to Turkey. In Turkey where I live (Alanya/Mahmutlar) I will not even consider even if I changed my driving license into a Turkish one (did you do this??).

Far too risky to drive in Turkey in my view (but if you live more inland it might be practical). Taxis are fine, public transport is fine and restaurants, shops etc are in crawling distance. What do you need with a car?

cdw057

@lldd11 If you have Ikamet and bank account I think  credit no issue, but loans for me are out of the question (why?)

@cdw057 Do you really have no cash?
