Issues claiming from Foyer insurance company

Adam Gilbride

Hi everyone!

This is my first post on here, just as I leave Luxembourg!

For context, my wife and I have been living in Luxembourg for the past 18 months and have just left to return to the UK.

When we were removing our furniture, we noticed a stain on the parquet flooring in the living room of the house we were renting. We’re not sure what caused it, or when it happened, but getting it resolved is obviously key to us getting our deposit back.

We have accidental damage insurance with Foyer, but we are having real trouble dealing with them. They are extremely slow to respond and even when they do, they tell us we aren’t covered for the damage.

Does anyone have any experience with them and how to deal with them? We’ve heard they can be ‘difficult’, so any advice or tips from anyone who has had experience with them would be gratefully received!

I guess you will have to read your policy really closely and see what it covers.

At this point what matters is the terms of the policy. The insurer can tell you something after the fact, but that does not imply that the insurer's response is accurate.

You might want to post the relevant excerpts of your insurance policy (preferably in its original language) and whether the policy requires alternative methods of dispute resolution prior to filing suit in court.

Also make sure your communications with the insurer are in writing. This will preclude "he said, she said" debates in case you take legal action.
