Hi Expats,

Please I would like to find out about tax refund payments for expats that exit the country within 3 months.

I had to exit the country and I already concluded tax clearance and recieved my last pay from my former company but till now am yet to receive any payments as tax refunds from the tax office.

I believe I am entitled to some tax refunds Inspite staying just 3 months,please does anyone have any ideas,has anyone has experienced with tax refunds payment from the tax office within a short period, please share your experience as it could be helpful to me.

Thank you.

micern

If you have been in Malaysia for just 3 months, you are not a tax resident. This means, you'll pay the maximum tax rate.

What/why are you expecting refunds? Have you paid in excess some how?

@micern

Thank you for your response

I paid 30% of each of my monthly earnings for the 3 months..does it mean that I am not eligible to receive anything back from the 30% I paid for the 3 months?

micern

That is correct. The tax rate for a non-resident is 30%. You also don't get deductibles.

If you had stayed long enough to become a tax resident, you would have received a refund based on what your actual tax rate would be.
