Van one way

Post new topic

wagnwoofnewwest

Hi,

I am bringing my personal belongings to Portugal  in a van (vauxhall Vivaro 2004) in July but I only need it  one way, so ideally I am looking for  an expat who is maybe looking to take belongings back to the uk and would want to buy a cheap van.  Does anyone know of a website that advertises this sort of thing?

Thanks

Fred

There are way too many dangers here.

A UK registration document shows the keeper of the vehicle, not the owner. A buyer could get back to the UK and find themselves with a stolen van. You also need to check the tax, MOT and so on.

If the owner has been declared bankrupt, the vehicle could be part of a court order.

If you buy a car abroad, you will need to insure it both for the UK and the drive home.

Last one - A quick search shows cars stuffed with drugs are sent to the UK. Imagine buying a car, only to get it stolen when you return to the UK. It seems gangs are using unwitting drug mules to drive them over borders.

Whilst I'm not suggesting the OP is in any way dodgy, I am saying there are far too many potential issues to consider buying car car in this manner.

Hi Fred,

This is Jacky and Mike that own the van. We appreciate your alarm and concerns and it really wasn't something that crossed our minds. We were simply looking at ways of reducing our costs in moving our items to Portugal and as such  looking for advice as to how we could sell the van legitimately to someone who might be moving back. That said, you can't be too careful!

Hi and Welcome,

I've done similar before and, being an adult, take responsibility for my own decisions and have access to UK insurance data base and HPI check etc.  If you post a few more posts on here then I can contact you by Private Message for some more details.  I may be interested as I'm trying to arrange taking my little UK motorbike on a few trails in Portugal and a UK van to put bike and other stuff in would make things much easier than trying to hire one for random periods and then return bike to UK (though It was suggested Morocco on the way back for off road action). I've also a friend's place, garden and sheds to use in the middle of Portugal  The only place I've seen UK vehicles abroad  for sale is E**y  UK  but several things are against you, as you probably know.

Good Luck

Hi Ginny here

I'm interested in talking with you about your message.

Please email me [link moderated] about your move as I also have 6 large boxes and an armchair that I would like to move this summer from Chiswick London to Almada Portugal. I wonder is there any space in the van to share with your stuff perhaps we could move the stuff together?
