Public transportation in Basel

Post new topic

Armand

Hi all,

What do you think about the means of transportation in Basel ?

Is the network of means of transportation well developed?
What modes of transport are available?

Do you use them?

How much is a fare?

Are they relatively safe?

What is the mean of transportation you use the most in Basel?

Thanks in advance for participating!

Love it.  Have a car but don't need it - it is a luxury here.  Our kids travel all around on their own - great for their independence and great for us as lazy parents!

As the rest of Switzerland, Basel has excellent public transport. The network is dense, and buses, trams and trains run at high frequencies. Though single and return tickets are relatively expensive (as anywhere in Switzerland - a half fare card is usually worth its price after only a few journeys), Basel has some good deals on season tickets: for 700 CHF per year (or 70 CHF per month) you have a "U-Abo", which entitles you for unlimited use of public transport in the "Tarifverbund Nordwestschweiz" - which covers both the half cantons Basel Land and Basel Stadt.
