Public transportation in Mexico

Post new topic

Armand

Hi all,

What do you think about the means of transportation in Mexico ?

Is the network of means of transportation well developed?
What modes of transport are available?

Do you use them?

How much is a fare?

Are they relatively safe?

What is the mean of transportation you use the most in Mexico?

Thanks in advance for participating!

Mexico is a very balcanized country, so what you will find in a city, might not be true for the city nearby. Most cities do have a very eficient public transportation system. Big cities like Mexico City, have underground which is very cheap and it's really great, it also has bus transportation system that taked you to almost every part of the city and the suburbs located in the State of Mexico. You can combine both of them if the distances are big. In other cities, like Guadalajara, there is no underground but there is public bus you can use. Unfortunately, in places like Leon and Guadalajara, they have adopted a public transportation system based on "saving money" by the government by privatizing the service and favouring the wealthy owners of private cars. In these cities they have taken out of action most efficient public buses and replaced them with a system known as "optibus" (Integrated Transport System) which is actually a single bus that do not cover the whole city (so you have to take additional small buses). So, while in the past workers had to take a single bus from their home to their workplace taking 20 minutes for that, now they have to take a small bus from home to the ITS station and then another bus to their workplace, taking about an hour or even more. In cities where this ITS has been adopted, taxi fares are extremely expensive.

Mexico City is a flourishing city for public transportation. You can arrive in Mexico City by air, bus or by taxi. You will need to take an authorized taxi from the airport or or you can peek up taxi by taxi stands. You can ask your hotel caretaker or member staff serving at a restaurant to do so for you. You can also register online through Rocky Point Rentals Online. For beach resort they give s online facility for reservation.
