I'm having mixed success so far sending from my U.S. bank via Remitly to my Moroccan bank (Société Générale). Their conversion rates are significantly more favorable than, e.g., BoA's, _but_ they are a bit slower and sometimes will delay your transfer — generally out of caution, to make sure there's no fraud going on given the high sums, but still, it isn't perfect. I'll be eager to hear other responses here!!

i use Western Union.  My fee is $7.00; no fee on the Moroccan end.

Also, I am asking about the fees the banks/apps apply when you send money from the US.

I send money from the US via Western Union.  we had been using bank to bank but the fees took out a big chunk.  the most i sent via WU is $300.  i was charged $7.00 in fees.  if you visit their website or download their app you will see their fee schedule.

@najatkessler Cash apps have a limit depending on the app. Wise has large dollar amount that can be transferred depends on currency. Only 270000 dirham max. FYI, you will have to file FBAR for $10,000 USD and above if it goes into your Moroccan bank account or one you have access to in Morocco. If you don't file the FBAR the penalty can be severe. Us government wants to make sure it's not for illegal activity or terrorism. You better read up on it. You can actually lose your US citizenship if not a natural citizen. Penalties much worse than the IRS. If the large amount is for buying an apartment or house and goes directly into seller's bank account, I don't think that would qualify for FBAR filling. You would have to research that or ask Tax attorney.

Of the options mentioned so far, Remitly has the highest daily remittance limit ($25k) with the lowest fee (flat $1.99). Or at least that was my experience; Wise, e.g., told me they'd charge a fee of more than $200 for a $25k transfer....

So this is the first time I have ever heard of an FBAR filing. Is this required if you are just moving your money from your US bank to your Moroccan bank?

@jeffrushka No, any bank outside USA. For example, if you have $5000 USD in Morocco and another $5000 USD in France which equals $10,000 USD, you must file the FBAR. If the total at any given time during the year even for one minute is $10,000 USD, you have to file. Read this:
