02/24/24    What happens to your residency status after you divorce a brazilian? Are you immediately deported? What are some of the consequences and options?

You are not immediately deported.  If the divorce is amicable, nothing may happen, at least until your CRNM needs to be renewed.  If the divorce is not amicable there's always the possibility that your spouse will go to the Polícia Federal to complain, which could launch an investigation, at least in theory.  So that's a good reason to keep things friendly if at all possible.

When the time comes to renew your CRNM you may have a problem, because you and your spouse will have to swear to the PF that your relationship is still in effect, which at that point will be impossible.  So if you want to stay in Brazil, it would be good to consult an attorney before your card expires.

If the expiration date on your CRNM is "indeterminada", then you have little to worry about unless you get into some kind of trouble with the law.  As the recipient of residency on the basis of family unification, you cannot bring another person (e.g., a potential spouse) to Brazil from abroad; that will start an investigation.  Again, before doing anything like that, it would be a good idea to consult an attorney.
