Car question

Post new topic

Not sure when I'll muster up enough courage to drive a car in VN after moving to VN but I've always read or heard that car in VN are 2-3x more expensive than you would buy in the US due to the import taxes levied on them. So what about the Vinfast cars? Are they a lot cheaper because they are made in VN? Or is it a way for the government to limit the amount of cars on the road due to small roads and especially alleys?

Thanks

I’ve heard both stories and my guess is it is a little bit of both. My wife and I bought a car about two years ago now. We looked at Vinfast and the prices were not that much better- we finally decided on a Toyota. My wife is a very finicky spender so if she decides on the Toyota over the Vinfast I’m sure it was a good choice. Charging stations for the electric cars are still not widely available here in Vietnam, so that was also a concern.

@drutter

You can't go wrong with a Toyota!

My wife's childhood friend works for a jeep dealiership. Starting price for a jeep wrangler is 3.8 billion VND or 136k USD. Buying a vinfast is absolutely significantly cheaper more in line with the prices you would pay for a Kia back in the states. Depends on the model of course.

@jrharvey

Why would anyone buy a Jeep especially at that price? They're always on the least reliable list.

@qnbui I said the same thing but aparently they are popular here.
