Difference between temporary and permanent resident cards

mfrancis1307

@Julien

Hi, my girlfriend and I and her 7 year old son are looking to move to Sayulita Mexico next summer.

I just retired and my girlfriend works remotely. We own a house in Sayulita that is rented on Airbnb and I own 2 plots of land in Sayulita. We are looking to move there and build a house on the land.

The questions I have are regarding the 2 types of Resident cards, temporary and permanent, and the major differences.  And also questions regarding moving some of our belongings there and the laws, paperwork involved in that.

Thank you

Hello and welcome on board !

Please note that I have created this new thread from your post on the Mexico forum so that members can guide you.

Till you receive some feedback, I would invite you to read the following article, which contains some info on both residency options :  Visas for Mexico

All the best

The difference is the financial threshold you must meet.

The threshold for the temporary visa is less. You will have the temporary for 4 years and then apply for the permanent.

If you are able to qualify financially for the permanent visa then you do not need to apply for the temporary visa.

Temporary visa = 4 years

Permanent visa is permanent and does not require renewal.

You can find updated information on the Mexican consulate website or from  the Mexican Imigration website.

Good luck
