Self employed Visa documents required

Dear Team,

I hope this email finds you well.

My name is Sandy, and I'm reaching out to you from Beirut, Lebanon. My partner and I are interested in working and relocating to Mauritius Island. Currently, we freelance in managing Airbnb apartments and have been working in the Hospitality and Food and Beverage industry since 2008. We're excited to bring our experience and dedication to Mauritius.

We've done some research and believe that the SELF-EMPLOYED visa might be the best option for us. We have a few questions regarding the process:

1. What documents are required for both of us to apply for the SELF-EMPLOYED visa?

2. Would it be beneficial for us to establish a company to qualify for the visa?

3. Could you provide information on the cost of registering a company in Mauritius?

4. Regarding the financial requirement, is it necessary to have $35,000 USD in a bank account under the company name? Is this amount per person or for the company as a whole?

5. Once we deposit the required funds into a Mauritian bank account, when will we be able to access and utilize this money? Are there any restrictions or waiting periods?

6. When we're ready to start our business, are there any regulations regarding the withdrawal of funds from our bank account? Is there a specific amount that needs to be withdrawn monthly, or are we free to access our funds as needed?

7. Finally, are there any specific documents we need to provide to the bank when making withdrawals?

Thank you for your assistance. We appreciate your help in clarifying these matters.

Best regards,

Sandy

Sandy i cannot answer your questions but i suggest you get answers from various sources as we have found that more often than not we get incorrect information even from Government people  or bank people.  we have been here retired for 2 1/2 years so still learning a lot about the locals who would rather give any answer even if they dont know the right one.

I've looked into this before and can answer a few of your questions

  1. The most important ones before the approval in principle stage are Birth Certificates and a business plan along with two letters of intent from potential clients
  2. For the self employed permit, you don't need to register a business, you'll just need to get a BRN as an individually
  3. Varies a lot and there's annual maintenance fees so can't give you a precise answer
  4. The 35K should be in a bank under your name for the self employed permit. Your spouse can be added to the application and does not have to transfer an additional 35k
  5. You can utilize it instantly, they just want you to do a transfer of foreign currency into the Mauritian economy.
  6. The funds are meant to be used for your business activity. They haven't specified things but I would assume that you should not take the money out of the country after getting approval. Better to leave it in the account and slowly utilize it over a few months.
  7. You'll have to open a bank account after you get approval in principle. There's no restrictions on withdrawals from the bank's end. I regularly send thousands of dollars into and outside Mauritius every month.

I'm also looking at applying for the same permit so did a fair bit of reading and research into it.
