Tax return for non dom

Post new topic

Leamcon

I've done a lot of googling but still not clear to me how to complete my first tax return.

Maybe someone can advise who has been through the same process?. Here the issues:

-I am an EU non Maltese citizen

-I became tax resident during 2023 year under the EU self sufficient residency option

-I do not work or earn income in Malta.

-I am required to complete my first tax return by End of JUN

-I presume I am non tax domiciled and therefore subject to tax only on monies remitted to Malta and taxed a fixed tax of EUR5000, on my global earnings as they are are above EUR35,000.

Qustions:

-Is non-dom status automatic or does it need to be separately applied for?

-For monies remitted to Malta do the local tax rates apply or is special 15% rate available as under some residence schemes.

-I see nowhere to enter remitted income on the tax return as it seems to be more interested in local employment income. Where on the tax return do I declare remitted income?

-Where on the tax return is the EUR5000 for global earnings accounted for, I find no entry for this?

All very confusing. Very grateful is anyone can advise who has come up with the same issues.

If you phone the tax office (153), you can ask for a 1 to 1 meeting  with 1 of their advisors,  I sugest you ask for a local office rather than the main 1 in Floriana, ( as its very noisy).
