Potential move to Spain

Newsandy

Hi

My partner (and I are looking to move to Spain next year. (We are both early 60's)

In the initial stages we plan to go for three months there and then three months England (obviously due to Brexit)

We are looking to explore the Costa del sol area and further along the coast line for a small town to eventually live.

We are looking at possibilities of Airbnb rental and then hiring a car or mobile home.

I am interested in anyone who has or is currently doing a similar thing for advise and any knowledge of the area

I look forward to sharing experiences.

I,m living in both ,Spain and,Portugal and have lots of years in southern Spain and have found that the Frontier of the two country's area is far the best in these changing times .

I could help on multiple levels.

Safe travels.

Airbnb will be a great short-term option to get a feel for different towns. Be sure to book something with a host nearby who can provide local tips. You can rent a car. Things like Nerja, Torrox & Frigiliana were nice smaller coastal towns with charm when I visited. Personally I preferred being a bit inland from the busier resorts. Tastes may vary in your 60s of course. I'm sure you'll love the laidback pace and lifestyle. This guide might help you with the local things, Also check their official tourism site

That sounds like an exciting plan! The Costa del Sol offers a great range of towns, each with its own charm, and is popular for expats due to its mild climate, beautiful coastline, and well-established communities. Here are a few things to consider based on your plan:

Location Options:

Nerja and Torrox are quieter coastal towns that maintain a more traditional Spanish feel, ideal if you’re looking for a peaceful setting.

µþ±ð²Ô²¹±ô³¾Ã¡»å±ð²Ô²¹ and Fuengirola offer a good balance between local life and expat communities, with plenty of amenities and activities.

Estepona has grown in popularity recently, with a charming old town and a bit more of a relaxed vibe compared to busier areas like Marbella.

Airbnb and Rentals:

Airbnb is widely used along the Costa del Sol, but keep in mind that in some towns, local authorities have strict regulations on short-term rentals. It's a good idea to book early, especially during peak seasons, and consider checking out longer-term rental platforms for stays over 30 days, which might offer better rates.

Car vs. Mobile Home:

Renting a car is quite straightforward and will give you flexibility to explore the whole region. If you plan on moving around a lot during your stay, a mobile home could be a fun option, especially for exploring areas beyond the typical tourist spots. Just be aware of campsite availability and parking restrictions in some urban areas.

Brexit Considerations: Since you're thinking of staying for 3 months at a time, it’s worth keeping track of the 90/180-day rule for non-residents post-Brexit. If you plan on eventually spending more time in Spain, it may be worth exploring non-lucrative visas for extended stays.

If you need any specific information about the legalities or want insights into particular towns, feel free to reach out. I’d be happy to share more details or connect you with resources. Wishing you the best of luck with your move, and I look forward to hearing how your plans progress!

Best regards,

Kyle Alford
