Shopping at military exchanges

Post new topic

I am in VN but every 90 days have to do a border run to renew.

I might consider a trip to P.I. to look around but also to hit of a US military exhchange to stock up on things.

Not sure if they are (a) available conveniently. or if (b) I qualify with a 60% disability rating. I have read -no- in foreign exchanges, need to be 100%.  But maybe they dont check?

Any info in this regard would be welcome.

Thanks for that info. I didn't look into travel in detail yet so I will make sure I  will do that.

Hi Danny,

Off topic. I'm planning an exploratory trip to VN & PH in March. I'd like to ask you some questions about VN. I'm not sure how to DM in this forum so I thought I'd just try replying to this post.

Well ask away. My experience is not so deep but I will try.

I have visited Vietnam on 2 occasions, HCMC and Da Nang with a day trip to Hoi An. I found HCMC to be very busy and difficult to walk with all the scooters parked on the pavement, driving on the pavement and crossing busy roads was a nightmare. Da Nang was a lot easier to navigate and I loved the place with lots to do, a lovely beach to relax on and excellent food and coffee.

I just looked on booking.com, put in random dates (10th - 17 March) and found 4 star hotels at very cheap rates, some less than £100 for the duration and with rooftop  pool.

Many thanks Dan

Cherryann forgot to mention the professional hair face neck and shoulder massages. If you ask nicely like CA did they will even drop you off at your hotel on their scooter. CA was out of Vietnamese (delicious) coffee so did not ask the lady up to his hotel room 🙄

I do concur with his analysis of Da Nang. HCMC does have a problem with pavement ( sidewalk to our American friends) scooter traffic.

Discovered a classy watering hole 10 minutes from my boutique hotel called Lost, Drink & Chill. Every city has  its hidden little gems and this is one of them. Populated by the Jazz set playing Frank Sinatra and Jack Jones ( wives and lovers) Seated at the elegant long bar and this attractive Vietnamese Architect sits next to me. Assuming her English was limited I just sat there nursing my mojito. She lights up a cigar ( I don’t smoke but love the aroma) and says in excellent English ‘ Aren’t you going to say something?’ A great evening with some of the most courteous charming and efficient bar service I have ever received. ( Comparable to Loewy in Jakarta)

The worse sidewalks I have encountered so far was in Da lat. I guess if just one person were out for a walk you could weave around obstructions but it was almost impossible for two people to walk and talk because every few feet you have to go single-file. I spent a few hours walking like this.

Yes and its such a shame as Vietnam ticks so many boxes in other ways. I'm amazed I never saw any pedestrian accidents albeit I was in the country for a relatively short space of time.
