Living cost Family of 5 in Riyadh and Jeddah

Post new topic

Hi, Saudi Arabia forum,

It's my first post in this forum. I need your help, and I hope you don't mind.

Currently, I'm in the final recruitment process with two different companies located in Riyadh and Jeddah.

My concern is I still don't know the living costs for my family of 5 (3 children, 7yo, 4yo, 1yo).

I already checked numbeo.com for the living cost, but maybe you have some insights that may not be provided in Numbeo.

For reference, from what I get in Numbeo:

Riyadh

  1. A family of four estimated monthly cost is SAR 12,000 (including children's school fees, but without rent)
  2. Apartment (3 bedrooms) Outside of Centre monthly rent is SAR 4,000
  3. Total monthly cost to live in Riyadh (family of four, including rent): SAR 16,000

Jeddah

  1. A family of four estimated monthly cost is SAR 11,000 (including children's school fees, but without rent)
  2. Apartment (3 bedrooms) Outside of Centre monthly rent is SAR 2,500
  3. Total monthly cost to live in Riyadh (family of four, including rent): SAR 13,500

My questions are:

  1. Any real numbers for a family of 5 in both cities? Or maybe you can do a good estimation? I'm open to any ideas.
  2. Any tips and tricks to save more money, such as recommended places to buy groceries, what kind of lifestyle should be done?
  3. Anything that maybe I have not yet asked in this post, but you think it's important for me to know?

Thanks for your help.

Hi , I don't know which website you got the number from but it depends on your salary and position , if your company isn't paying for your children and wife,  then you have to account for 400 Riyal / month ,which is 19200 a year , And a British/ American School Fees is average 40,000- 50,000 Riyal per year , Rent in Riyadh and other services are high , Riyadh rent for a proper three bedroom three bathroom will be around 45,000-75,000 ,if you are looking at decent options in North , otherwise you can look for cheaper options in South , Jeddah rentals are cheap , if you are looking for 3 bedroom and 3 bedroom you can get the best options in 25000- 35,000 . JEDDAH is cheaper and has less traffic , I would advise you to go for Jeddah ,if you have the option .

Hi, thank you for your response, I appreciate it.

I got those numbers above from a website called Numbeo(dot)com, which provides the living cost in big cities in the world.

Anyway, thanks for your numbers on how much I need to pay for rent and children's school fees. It helps a lot.

But yes, if I had the option, I think I would choose Jeddah, unfortunately I'm not.

That's why I need this information so I can prepare a better negotiation regarding the salary packages.

Hello,

Numbeo numbers are almost true if you're looking for an Westerner lifestyle.

If you look more towards an Asian frugal lifestyle, then in Riyad you can get 3 bedroom-bathroom flats for SR 35k per year. Cheaper schools where monthly fees can around SR 600.

Negotiate on the dependent fee as each of your dependent is SR 400/ month, so it is 1600 per month.

Petrol can be around SR 500 per month, Grocery a decent 400-500 weekly, eating out 150-200 weekly, internet 300 pm, water/ electricity 250 pm on average. Mobile package can be around 75-100 pm per person.

Frugal monthly costs all inclusive can be 7-8k and a decent westerner can be 10-12K.

Hope this helps!
