Whole house water filtration system

Post new topic

Looking to have someone install a Whole house water filtration system in my Argao (  Southern Cebu ) home. i already have a pressure tank in place so that might lessen the cost. Main concern is hard water so a water softner is mandatory. Was told that a Reverse Osmosis system is the best way to go. Any advice and suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Have you had a full water analysis with a laboratory accomplished? That's the first port of call so you know what you are dealing with.

An interesting topic and think this has been raised before by a few members. Being an old retired plumber and dealing with water filtration and RO plants for years including here in PH. We ran a true RO plant as well as a treatment plant for the kitchens down in Cam Sur for a mobile film crew of 300 people and not cheap to purchase and maintain, for a house not so bad.

Our well water tests were all within WHO limits aside from mineral content including minerals calcites as well as a slightly elevated level of sodium.

I costed a system around 6/7 years ago to suit our needs and was around P 100k,,,,,,, and then the maintenance week after week on top of that, bit like running a salt water swimming pool.

I worked out that P 100k would buy 400K 25 liter water bottles from the local refil station or enough for 15/20 years and no maintaining of a system, backwashing, UV globe replacements etc.

Our well water is fine and lived with it for over 6 years including brushing teeth and we are still alive. Every few months I drag out the hydrochloric acid (muriatic acid here) and give a squirt into the toilet bowls to remove the calcium build up.

Simply let the refill station do all the work for our drinking water.

Get some local costings on a whole home filtration system from reputable companies then decide.

Good luck Morgacj.

Cheers, Steve.

Thanks . I just ordered a home water test off of Amazon that had great reviews. $40 USD tests for 24 substances. I will take your advice and start with that.

At least you will know what you are dealing with and if you go ahead with a self contained system can size it accordingly.

My only question would be that if you are dealing with a US based company what is the turn around time for you to collect your water sample and get it to the Laboratory? Degradation of the sample etc.

Her our water samples were collected by  lab technician from the well (not a tap) and analyzed that afternoon, No different to my water samples collected in the early morning and a chain off custody accomplished for the lab in Australia and by the next morning had the results emailed to me,,,,, good or bad. That was always 6 samples collected by me or one of my co workers and delivered to the lab by 10 am in the morning 45 minutes away.

Suggestion? Ask your local refill station who they use for their water tests and go with them. It's mandatory here for refill stations to have their finished product tested every 3 to 4 weeks.

Cheers, Steve.

The Amazon test is a do it yourself test at home. Tests for 24 substances and shows PH Hardness levels. You do not send a sample in. I will try it and if not happy with results return it to Amazon and use a local tester if one can be found in Argao area.

For something like that I might consider using a government or professional service in nearby Cebu who can give you a certification. We are located on an inactive volcano Mt Talinis and in some places thermal springs come to the surface. Some day I may dig a well (we also have storage and pressure tanks) as the engineer for Valencia city indicated I could likely find it; the water would come out hot of course and as the engineer stated, millions of years old being trapped in the rocks. And rocks is my problem, finding a driller who can cut through rocks. Anyway, near to us is NASPRI, a bistro and bottler of NASPRI water and they, owned by a Dutch resident,  test their water in 2 ways. By the way, we are a bit south of Argao in Negros Oriental bordering Dumaguete: From their website:

"Naspri Water is taken from Pangi Thermal Spring, which is from the natural spring from the Mountain of inactive volcano in Negros Oriental called Mount Talinis. Mount Talinis is treasured with different big lakes, preserved and protected by the National Park Authorities. Natural Thermal Springs are processed naturally, sterilized and filtered through volcanic heat and its lava stones or volcanic rocks in a long period of time. The purification process is natural volcanic activity that makes the quality of natural spring as a Thermal Spring, sparkling as crystals, high quality drink water. Controlled by DENR, Ph. Classified Class-A. Laboratory mineral contains and bacteria tests result prepared by GROEN AGRO CONTROL Laboratory the Netherlands."
