I am interested to know how to find bank foreclosure sales or repossessions.

I would also like to know how much negotiating goes on, I suspect some Finns would find this against their nature.

if you are buying anything other than a detached house 'omakotitalo' then watch the extra monthly costs

Well we just returned from a 12 day trip intent on viewing to buy...

We were hampered by ill health and some very poor weather, we have concluded that for certain properties we need the snow to lift before committing - not a problem with town/city center locations.

Quite an eye opener, I think estate agents will tell you what you want to hear - I guess a problem world over....

We went to ask the local council about building a garage on a town center property (Elimäki) to find by chance that a key piece of land was in fact owned by the council!  We asked on the viewing a question about it and either the agent did not know or lied - neither of these is satisfactory

Sadly my worst trip to Finland in 11 yrs, poor hotel service, an item going 'missing', car hire not being what we booked etc.

Still it can only get better....

For the record not ALL agents were bad, it's just in Finland you tend to expect over the top formality in everything. 

We may of found one not too far from Järvenpää.... We still have at least one other to see

Oh clearly offers are there to be made which is not something I was expecting, like the UK it's all down to the individual owners needs/motivation at any given time.  There are not many what we in the UK call 'must sells'

Well we've decided to buy a flat in Kouvola area, use this as a base for house hunting and then just rent it out. We are quite familiar with this part of the world and have family locally

without a 'base' to look from its just too difficult, from so far away

going back to view flats... Soon.

I'm afraid the Uk (particularly Greater London) has just had it - it might be great for tourists or a visit but it is too culturally divisive to live in - it saddens me to write that.  Where has all the Britishness gone?
