Grounding of electrical devices

Post new topic

JanKrohn

Sockets in our house are generally not grounded. Yesterday I started to hook up our home entertainment stuff, plugged in all the devices, and noticed an electric current on all the cases, not very strong, but strong enough so you don't want to touch anything.

I've been thinking about replacing the socket, but then I don't know if there's at all a grounding cable in the wall.

Any input on this problem is hicghly appeciated, especially any recommendation for a good electrician in Toul Kork near the 271.

Best wishes,
Jan

Hi Jan,
Don't forget that the ground or earth wire in a socket is there to act as a safety line to carry away any current that comes into contact with a device casing.

If you have a current at the casing then the problem lies within the device. A ground will carry away this current safely so that you don't get shocked but it doesn't 'fix' the problem, if you know what I mean!

I hope I have explained that properly!
Good luck
Ian
