Hiring a lawyer in Portugal

Post new topic

RoGun

Does anyone here know the ballpark rates for lawyers in Portugal.  I'm asking on behalf of someone who recently came into a lot of money and has been enjoying the assistance of a local smalltown lawyer in dealing with tax issues etc.

This person is illiterate and unsophisticated, and we have reason to be concerned that he is about to be seriously ripped off by the lawyer.  He did not sign any kind of a fee agreement, and he says they never even spoke about fees until now.

Thanks for any information you may have.

HI! your friend must be aware that this lawyer can charge him  whatever he / she wants ( the lawyer ) if there is no writing agreement. That is the usual trick lawyers do, they say "we talk about that later" and when they really talk is always a fortune, I am sorry for your friend. But he can refuse to pay if it is considered out of this world, nevertheless the lawyer now knows a lot about him and will be able to use it against your friend.

I suggest him to stop the lawyer where they are now and ask for a writing price list or whatever honorary fees he charges for the sort of work he is providing.
