Drivers be careful
I have come to know that Kuwait traffic department has re-programmed all road camaras which are now linked to each other and the system is working from today, Friday, July 15, 2012. The two camaras on a road will check the timing of a car travelling between them and if it reaches the second camara range before the prescribed time it means that the driver had exceeded the speed limit that's why he reached the second camara range before the set timing  and in this case the second camara takes the photograph of the speedy car.

This measure was taken because before drivers while approaching  the camara range, reduced the speed and once cross the camara range again speeded up the cars and hence a number of accidents had been reported.

Now a driver cannot speed up his car once crossing camara because the next camara fixed on his way will measure the speed and send the photograph to the traffic department.

upon reading this post, a friend objected and said that the information is invaluable and asked me the source of this news.

For all readers i am adding a news issued by the official kuwait news agency (kuna) on june 7, 2012. The news added that the system has been initially implimented from 15th june 2012, means gradually this system will monitor all kuwait's roads.

THE POINT-TO-POINT SPEED CAMERA SYSTEM  IS TO BE OPERATING ON THE FIRST RING ROAD AS OF JUNE 15, A SENIOR  OFFICIAL OF THE MINISTRY OF INTERIOR SAID HERE THURSDAY.
THE POINT-TO-POINT (OR AVERAGE) SPEED CAMERA SYSTEM USES A  NUMBER OF CAMERAS OVER A LENGTH OF ROAD TO MEASURE A VEHICLE'S  AVERAGE SPEED.
THE MOVE IS PART OF THE MINISTRY'S FERVENT EFFORTS TO ENSURE  ROAD SAFETY AND REDUCE CAR ACCIDENTS, ASSISTANT UNDERSECRETARY OF  THE INTERIOR MINISTRY FOR TRAFFIC MAJ. GEN. MUSTAFA AL-ZABI SAID IN  NEWS REMARKS.
HE SAID THE POINT-TO-POINT SPEED CAMERA SYSTEM USES THE TIME IT  TAKES FOR A VEHICLE TO TRAVEL BETWEEN THE TWO POINTS TO CALCULATE  THE AVERAGE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE.
AS PER THE SYSTEM, CAMERAS ARE TO BE FIXED AT THE BEGINNING AND  END OF A SECTOR OF THE ROAD IN ORDER TO MONITOR POSSIBLE SPEED  VIOLATIONS, HE ADDED.
THE TRAFFIC IS KEEN TO DO EVERYTHING IT COULD TO ENSURE TRAFFIC  DISCIPLINE AND PROTECT CITIZENS AND RESIDENTS ALTOGETHER, HE  POINTED OUT.

This information is invaluable. Thank you. Could you kindly inform us the reference of this information.

They have this exact system in place on some roads where I am from in London. It's the most advanced system for checking speed and is designed to stop drivers from speeding up between cameras.
You will know for sure if this is in place as the cameras are small and round {like the cardboard in a toilet roll} and are positioned over the road, one camera for every car line. You will past under the first set of cameras and then reach the second set about 1/2 a mile down the road.
I'm happy to hear that Kuwait have invested in these as from what I hear about driving on the roads there, its not something I am looking forward to experiencing!

I'm not :P its bad enough those cameras have me 80KD in the red, now with these new improved cameras, we will be late O.O

MrsIsmail

Naughty Legacy

maybe you should start saving all your fils in a jar, to go towards all the speeding fines you're gonna have! :P

legacy

ive had my licence for 5 years, 80KD seems a meager amount dont u think :P? (no wait, thats 80KD on my car, i did pay 50 before that so, still, safe) both for the same violation, going 40Km/h above the speed limit, but it wasnt my fault! the 5th ring road is 120 all the way to salmiya, then it suddenly drops to 80! so technically, i wasnt speeding ;P

MrsIsmail

LOL look at you getting all 'technical' and explaining! :D its okay... I won't shop you to the traffic police ;)
but if your saying the speed limit drops suddenly then they have definitely done that one of purpose to catch you 'speeders'! verrryyy sneaky!

legacy

i wasnt caught by your "regular" speed cams too, they get sneakier! they have these portable cams that are placed in cars, true the cars are grey jeeps with the words "TRAFFIC CAMERA" emblazoned on the side, but who really reads the writing on cars when driving? honestly?

that specific area goes from highway to tunnel, maybe thats why they want people to slow down?

sajjadahmed_70

legacy habibi now you know on which point on the 5th ring road speed limit reduces from 120 to 80 so get alert before that point and reduce it to 80 kph to avoid further fines.

Do the sat navs alert u in Kuwait?
Las

legacy

dear Lszo, nope, the street has signs "careful camera ahead", but like i said, sometimes they sneakily have those cars posted in areas where u dont believe there will be a camera. the use of sat navs that pinpoint cameras in the Gulf is to an extent considered illegal, if my readings from the blogosphere are correct. not to say it has not been tried, but there is no locally available map for it.

Thanx legacy, strange but I believe u.
