Europe and climate change..

Post new topic

as you know, i am considering moving to Spain, (it's basically the plan) i'm very interested in what it means for Spain. "it" being Global Warming, etc. call me crazy, but i've read that Spain will be a desert within the next century. have you guys heard this? i have kids that i'd like to make sure that i make the best decision for.. what would this mean for them and their children? even more northern countries in Europe have recently experienced heat waves that were actually fatal! i don't know if all this info has been trumped up or how serious of a concern it really is for you that are living in Europe. it is info that was very recently passed to me, by someone who considers Austria to be the only place in Europe worth mentioning lol so what are your opinions?

thanks in advance!

Well, having lived in Austria, I also heard, that it might be one of the counrties in Europe where the change will be the biggest (it's going to be really warm...), so I don't know if we can really speculate on that.
They also say that Holland will disappear, which is real but it's not a reason not to live there... The next century should not, in my opinion, be a motivation...

But that's just my point of viex :)

Nobody really knows exactly what will happen.  Some think that Europe will get colder due to disruption of the Gulf Stream, which brings warmer temperatures here.

Much of central Spain is a desert now, or at least pretty sun-bleached and barren by the end of the summer, as is much of the central USA, so I wouldn't worry about it. Like you, your kids don't have to stay. No-one really knows what climate change will bring, so you can't really plan for your kids' adulthood. Move near the coast, maybe slightly elevated, and have fun.
