Hello zoelee and welcome to ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ!

Do not hesitate to participate on the forum, it may help.;)

You may also post an advert in Valencia classifieds for the language exchange & for the classes.:)

i replied to newcatt something that might be interesting for you!

i highly recommend to go to languages exchanges to meet new people!

- portland ale house (the biggest tandem)
- big ben
- the black sheep
- Las horas

For dancing classes i recommend Azucar, a very famous pub in Patraix (mercado de jesús). Its free classes as long as you have a drink. When i went they were teaching salsa.

Good luck!

Hi Zoelee!

I hope I don't sound like a broken record, since I'm kind of repeating here what I've posted elsewhere, but one of the best places for language exchanges, in my opinion, is the Portland Ale House. They host several language exchange nights (some nights where English speakers get free drinks to coach Spanish-speakers, and other nights visa versa). They also have a very popular pop quiz night (in English) on Sundays, which seems to have a regular following and might be a good place to get to know people.

You can also try posting an ad in the University of Valencia's English Philology Department [http://www.uv.es/filoangal] or the Valencia "Escuela Oficial de Idiomas" (Official Languages School) [http://www.eoivalencia.es/]. Both host avid communities of Anglophiles and are therefore good spots to find language exchange partners.

And to read up on Valencia, I recommend my own blog, "Not Hemingway's Spain", or the dormant (but still useful) blog of some friends of mine:

Best of luck with your move here!

For those of you who are women, I think a social forum like this once existed on MeetUp, Valencia Women's Social:

meetup.com/ValenciaWomensSocial

It was a connector group for English-speaking (though not necessarily native Speakers) living in Valencia with an international profile. It appears to be missing, but if you follow this link you'll find other MeetUp groups listed for Valencia of possible interest.

Hello Zoe and Tivoli,

I hope you do not mind me dropping you a line, I read your message on the ½ûÂþÌìÌà and immediately the word 'cocktail' stood out so I was then keen to email  - :D

I am wondering if you have managed to have any success in finding your feet in Valencia and  making new friends, have you any tips on where the best place is to meet new friends. I am really keen to secure a good social network in Valencia and your advice would be great.

Are you both still in Valencia?

Thanks very much to the both of you.

Shelley
