Cat Importation Questions

What are the requirements for bringing a cat into the country? What kind of vet accreditation is needed on the health check certificate?

Can the cert be an official letter from my vet?

If I have her transported to HCMC after I arrive is it possible to have my cat delivered to my apartment or do I have to pick her up at the airport?

Is there anything else I should know?

Thanks!

Jaitch

1. All shots must be up to date;
2. Vet letter saying junior is in good health (dated with 10-20 days);
3. If checked baggage clearly tag animal AND cage with your PNR info (6-digit letter/number combination) with your destination (i.e. SGN);
4. Don't feed on day of travel:
5. Water, if drunk, should be in cage in suitable spill proof container. (Lick spout or similar_

ON ARRIVAL you will be allowed to retain junior BUT you might be required to have Vet]s letter translated in to VN. You will learn this when you enter through customs but if not mentioned forget about it.

Lots of cat supplies in HCM and Ha Noi. *Have name tag made before you leave)

Will a letter from any vet in Canada do or is there a certain kind of accreditation needed?

Thanks!

Any animal doctor who has the uni certificate. Not some pet store.

You love your cat; you'll go to a qualified vet ... that one. (Even though they won't, these days checking up on things is so easy)

Dogs and cats need both a good health and a rabies certificate.

Ash, you also need for the Vet's certificate to be endorsed by the CFIA for the cat to get out of Canada as well as get into Vietnam as well as go through any transit points. They are the "OFFICIAL" authority as to the health of the cat.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is responsible for establishing import requirements for all animals entering Canada, including domestic pets.

A friend brought her Heinz 57 over, was allowed straight through at TSM and when she turned up with the fancy translation and seal the Customs people seemed totally bored and unexcited. The CFIA has no interest in pet animal exports from Canada.

She reported that the security worker in TaiWan simply patted the animal and waived through. She travelled from Canada on Eva and was able to keep her cat caged in the cabin under her feet.

Chances are that VN cats have way more infections and diseases than even a street cat from Canada. Ami just to think they eat cats in the VN far northwest.

Hey, I just DID the whole deal. I talked with the officials from CFIA. Don't dis me.

How did you get your letter endorsed?

lnigalis

Go to you local CFIA office with your vet certificate AND the rabies vaccination certificate. They need to see both. They examine them both and sign the certificate. The vet certificate can be found here:
