If you're coming with an open mind (waw make sure you will not close it for little troublesome things! ex; hell lot of dust here, but aw this is desert what else you can expect?) , you will find lot of friends and will find out that Kuwait also has its own good. Hi Allan, I have just arrived and will also be teaching.  My one piece of advice is if the building you will be living in does not come with internet, make sure bring books to read or dvds to watch (you can get dvd's cheap here).  The heat has been bad but in the evening it is a bit more tolerable.  Everyone has been very friendly and there are lots of groups to join!

Thank you all for the well wishes/welcomes.  I am definitely bringing an open mind to Kuwait and am very much looking forward to my arrival.  The only thing that is stressing me out at the moment is whether or not I'll have to pay income tax on my earnings while teaching in Kuwait when I return to Canada LOL.

I figure if that is all I am worried about I am ahead of the game! : P

Looking forward to meeting some new friends and can't wait to join you all in Kuwait on the 21st!

It's very good to have an open mind... That is how you should approch change in general. However, I'm sorry, this is a close minded country. Hope you aren't into normal things... Like, ummm... I dunno... eating lunch?

I'm moving to Kuwait end of Aug too and like you keeping an open mind. It'll be good to meet new people and learn about new cultures!! I'm getting dead excited now, just not looking forward to the heat with my fair complexion lol.

Welcome! I will also be heading to Kuwait on the 21st to teach! I'm coming from the States, and I am crazy excited to soak up some new culture. I tend to get restless without change and learning, so this is perfect timing!

This is a great country for sobriety and getting to know yourself. I've recently just moved to Kuwait from Cherry Valley, Ontario. My place was in the sandbanks provincial park. I lived in Toronto prior to moving to such a secluded area like Cherry Valley :p. I've been learning the guitar and finding the quiet music scene very rewarding. Lots of Oud(lute) players here. Anywhom hope you enjoy your stay, if you are driving I urge you to keep in mind the inexperienced moronic driving that only consists of gas and break. There are fucken turn signals use them! I digress though.

Enjoy your stay. Water sports are the way to go, get into diving, your in a new place, try new things right?

Concerning the heat Ally, I am fair skinned too and it hasn't been that bad.  Plus I am in my 40s so I get extra hot.  However, once it is dark and you can eat and drink in public, it is actually kind of nice, if you absolutely cannot stand it - there is plenty of air conditioning here.

I have been here just a week and I have found plenty to do.  I went to Fahaheel one night, I went to a Lebanese restaurant and the Avenues another night, Mubarakia (I know my spelling is off) one night, I went to church one day, there was a great bbq on top of a roof by the beach that I went to (socializing seems to be the thing to do) - - it's all actually more than I even do at home in the US!  There are plenty of groups to join and everyone has been quite friendly.

Thanks lme, iv been living in Qatar for the past two years and use to the heat but I was taken off playground duty in the summer because I got burnt only being out for 30mins lol got the ginger gene in me being Scottish so I'll be ok with a factor 100

Sounds good I am getting more excited about the things I'll be doing when I get to Kuwait.

LOL well I hope I can get lunch when I'm there! Or rather can afford it as I hear food is expensive

Thanks again to everyone for the welcome to Kuwait and this blog. I had my last day at work here in Canada today and am super excited to have the next week off to get things settled and then arrive on the 22nd.

I'm definitely hoping to try diving (or at least find a pool!) during my time in Kuwait. In Canada I ride dirtbikes, fly planes, and maintain a pretty active lifestyle so this will be a big adjustment.  Very excited though and can't wait to meet some new friends and experience some culture shock! LOL
