Hi andy79,

Yes, you can carry Tata Sky / Dish TV set top boxes when you enter Oman.

If you carry 1 or 2 set top box(es) in your checked-in baggage you will have no issues while exiting the Muscat International Airport – no one would stop you.

After you choose your house, get some local cable TV mechanic / technician (details can be got from your local references and from the newspaper classifieds) to get the dish installed.

Most new buildings come equipped with a common dish with outlets leading straight to your living / bedrooms, in which case you do not even have to invest in your own personal dish (which would otherwise set you back by about R.O. 35/- to R.O. 45/- for a 5Â’ dish).

Remember to renew your subscription through someone in India (if youÂ’re planning to pay in Indian Rupees). It is commonly believed that if you renew your subscription online from here in Indian Rupees, then the service provider can identify that the subscription has been renewed from outside of India (through your computer's IP address) in Indian Rupees and the service provider could well block / disbale your connection, as it becomes illegal.

Alternately, to play it safe you could opt for an ‘International Viewing’ Card option which would enable you to renew your subscription online from anywhere outside of India (in foreign currency) and continue to receive all the channels as you would in India.

Charges for ‘International Viewing’ Card would vary depending on the channels that you choose. For the usual set of channels it will cost about R.O. 18 for 3 months.

Trust the above information is helpful.

Best wishes.
