Post new topic

Hi all,

I will be travelling to Muscat in one months time from Chennai, India. Planning to call my wife and 3 months old child after 1 or 2 month (I will be travelling next month and they will be joining me there in muscat after 2 or 3 months).
Please teling how safe it is to take my 3 months old baby there to muscat.

Need clarification on,
1) Can a 3 months old baby can travel abroad ? is passport and visa needed for him seperately ?
2)Is there any specific vacine to be put for my baby for the Muscat travel?
3) Will i get all vaciences available at Muscat ?
4) how good are the child medication centres in muscat? are they very efficient ?
5) Will i get all basic amenities for my 3 months old baby ?

Waiting for for your kind response .. thank you.

Regards,
Nishok

Hi Nishok,

It is absolutely safe to bring your 3-month old baby !

Why, whatÂ’s your apprehension ?

Clarifications to your queries :

(1)    Yes indeed ! For travel to any country outside of India, the traveller must hold a valid Indian passport and an entry Visa issued by the country they are going to. It is mandatory and essential, without which the traveller cannot even board the flight.

(2)    Nothing in particular, except the routine vaccines which a baby must be given, as advised by the paediatrician.

(3)    Yes, you will get all the required vaccines here in Muscat – both at the Government run Health Clinics and at the numerous private polyclinics.

(4)    Though available in plenty, medical services across the board are not very good for all – children as well as adults. Medical services that can be availed for managing the regular illnesses such as cold, cough, flu etc. But for anything requiring specialised treatment youÂ’ll have to necessarily go to India or elsewhere only.

(5)    Yes.

Good luck !

Thank you Sumitran.

I would also like to know the rental charges of a 1 bhk flat(non-shared, washine machine + equipped kitchen is nessacary ) for a family of 3 people (self + spouse + 3 months old baby), in qurum area, Muscat (place in and around Royal Oman police headquaters ).

Sumitran

Qurum is a relatively more expensive neighbourhood.

You should get a 1 BHK apartment for about R.O. 200 - R.O. 300 / month – I was living in one such apartment in an exclusive neighbourhood of Qurum a couple of years back and the rent then was R.O. 400 / month. But lately there are more apartments available and the demand has gone down, so have the house rents.

Am not sure if you'll get a partially furnished accommodation like the one that you're asking for. Even if you do find one, you may have to increase the monthly rent amount by at least another R.O. 50 minimum.

nishok

Thanks again Sumitran.. Every nice of you :)

I believe those Rooms for R.o 200 - R.o 300 to have A.C in all rooms.
If I am not getting a furnished house, like i mentioned,
1)Is it possible to wash our clothes in any pay and use Laundromats? Is it available in qurum area ?
2)can I get these rented flats without any bokers ? or else do i need to spend some money in Bokerage? any advance is needed ?
3)Is fruits so costly in Muscat ?
4)Can I find any south indian restuarants in and around qurum, if so are they eceonomical/ pocket friendly ?
5)On an average how much is need per month along with my spouse and kid (average economical living - 3 times a day food in hotel, basic shoppings, very few outings, etc..)

Sumitran

Yeah, all new buildings have to have Split A/Cs. It is mandatory. Incidentally, my former house in Qurum had a ceiling fan plus a Window A/C in the kitchen, and Split A/Cs in the Living Room and Bedroom. Windows A/Cs are no more in use around here - unless you opt to rent a really old building.

(1) The western concept of the 'pay n' use' "Laundromats" does not exist in Oman.

(2) Yes, you can get in touch with the landlords directly through newspaper advertisements. You don't have to go through House Brokers, if you don't want to.

(3) Relatively, yes. But still affordable.

(4) Yes, you will find one every 100 metres. Muscat is saturated with South Indians. So no worries.

(5) 3 meals a day outside (not advised), plus all that you've mentioned would set you back by approximately about R.O. 200/month. (I calculated the 3 meals a day on the parcel drop serviceÂ’s monthly rate which all average neighbourhood restaurants provide. If you're planning on going out and eating at different restaurants, then it would be a very, very expensive proposition. Rates of course would depend on the type of restaurants you go to.)
