Hi! Can you please help?

Post new topic

Roe_Amerasian

Hi everyone!

I posted this at the wrong forum so I apologize if you see this twice.

My name is Roe. I am so excited that I found this site! I'm living in the U.S. but I have been thinking & wanting to move to Vietnam, to live and to work there for at least 2-3 years. I would appreciate your help in providing me some insight/info as I am trying to find out if I can find work in the pharmaceutical industry in Vietnam. And of course, in the mean time, I would love to make new friends and to establish friendship/network before making my permanent move.  :)

Background: I have a B.A. degree in Biology, worked 10 years in the biotechnology/biopharmaceutical industry, specifically processing and manufacturing area (FDA regulated environment), from technician to supervisory level. I was born and raised in Vietnam but moved to the U.S. when I was young (fluent both English Vietnamese). I wonder if I can find work in the biotech/pharmaceutical field in Vietnam or I would have to teach English to make a living.

Any info regarding job opportunities in the pharmaceutical companies (that involve processing/manufacturing that does not involve sale) or if you know of someone who work in the industry that you can refer me to talk to would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you everyone in advance for reading and for your help!

Roe

Roe,

Check with vietnamworks.com and a few other on here.

Roe_Amerasian

Hi Wild_1

Thank you for the suggestion! I will definitely check out Vietnamworks.com. What "few other one on here" did you refer to?

By the way, I read your profile to learn a bit about you. You traded sunny southern California and I am planning to trade the hot desert sun of Phoenix, AZ for HCM City! :)

Wild_1

Roe,

A couple of the guys on here have very good info on the employment agencies in Vietnam.  They posted them on here awhile back.  I just can't remember the topic off of the top of my head...  Just search through them.

As for my going from southern California to Vietnam, I certainly did and wished that I had done it sooner.

When are you planning on going to Vietnam?  I will be heading back there in a few days.  Look me up, we'll go grab a couple of beers or something.

In the meantime, if you have any question, as long as it is not in the medical or IT field, feel free to drop me a line.

Cheers,
Howie

Well.

It may sound obvious, but if you want to work in the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry, I assume you have researched the industry?
I can't imagine that there are many reputable manufacturers, like OPV (). It can't be a big industry here since most medicines are imported. I'd send my CV's directly to them, instead of trying your luck in forums like this.

Hello Howie,

It may be a while because I will try to line up a job first. If it doesn't work out after some time, then I will just relocate with funds (am starting to save now) to cover 6 months to a year of living in the city. I will look you up and we WILL have a beer in the future for sure! :)

After reading many posts here, I feel much more comfortable and not alone any more knowing that there are many of wonderful expats and locals who are friendly and willing to help the newbies (like myself). :)

Hi Anatta,

Yes, I have done some research. But like you mentioned, correct on both counts - most medications are imported and there aren't many company that show up in my search. Thanks for the suggested web site!

In trying my luck in this forum, I hope to accomplish 2 important things:

1) To reach out to see if I get lucky in finding someone who may have info in the industry. If no one knows then it helps validate the fact that this industry is not popular in Vietnam and that I will have to shift my focus more towards teaching ESL.
2) To make friend and learn from each other.

Thank you for your suggestion. I really appreciate it.

Roe,

Sure thing.  Just take your time.  You are on the right track, though.  Vietnam is not a place to be unprepared and indecisive, especially for a guy like you.  So, get all that you will need, and some, before you go.

BBraun just opened a Medical factory in Hanoi.
They already have a Pharma factory.

Don't know if this will help. richter.hu/en/Pages/CEOWelcome.aspx#about

They have office in VN but i'm not sure you will find the job you're looking for if not sale executive. I got few friends worked for them before and i heard it was good.

Anyway, good luck!

If you're also looking for a job as English Teacher in the meantime, contact my friend's school i-clc.edu.vn/

I checked out it's web site and the 7 mins video. I didn't plan to move to Hanoi initially, but I would not rule it out if I get a decent offer.  I will look at it closer and contact them directly.

Richter's web site says it has 4 pharmaceutical manufacturing sites (pharmaceutical manufacturing is my field!).  I checked out the Vietnam web site but it's under construction. :( I'll check back later and see what I can find.

Yes, teaching ESL will definitely be my alternative route.  I am going to give myself sometime to find a job within my field first. If not, then I'll will take either the TESOL, CELTA, or IELTS (I am not even sure yet which one of these is considered more valuable in Vietnam). I'll save the web site for possible future use.

Thank you for your help!

Hi Nhung,

Great links! Wow, those 2 links have many web sites from various agencies for me to research and to contact them directly as well. Thank you so much!

Regarding Sales and Marketing - I do not have experience in neither one of them as they are not my field study nor experience.

Thank you for your help Nhung!
