Mosquitos, Malara and Suicide showers

Post new topic

BOSTON MAMA

Hello,

My family and I are planning on a trip to Ecuador in June or August. I read that it is the rainy time and also winter.

The article I read said it might never drop below 50, but the mosquitos are terrible.

Is there any truth to this?

Anybody follow the travel advisory and get malaria and other immunization prior to traveling?

Showers? Are the all held together with tape and exposed electrical wires ?

We would like to visit, Cuenca and the coast

I hope to hear from someone soon.

Thanks

Hello,

About mosquitoes, yes in some parts of the coast are a real pain, depends on the weather, if is the rainy season or you live close to rivers or swamps.

About malaria, I dind't hear of any case lately, dengue is most common I think in Manta, Esmeraldas.

And about the showers you can only find them in cheap hotels, hostals or low level rentals, old apartments.

Thank you for the reply Vinny.

Do you live in Cuenca with the children in the photo?  Are children are 4 & 7.

Would you mind telling me how the weather really is in June through August. We are not sure which month we would be heading there.

What do you use for modes of heating the house? Is it even necessary?

Thanks

I spent 2 weeks in Cuenca last June. Very few rain showers, and the ones I experienced were very short lived. The weather was fantastic, but then, I'm from Minnesota. Fifty at night was perfect sleeping weather for me. The mid 70's in the day were perfect w/ no humidity. Biggest plus? Never saw 1 mosquito in 2 weeks.
Matter of fact, I liked it so well, I'm moving there this June.
Good Luck in your Travels.

Mosquitos are not that bad, In Guayaquil-Ecuador this is the WORST time for mosquitos (From December to May) Just buy a good repellent and do not wear black it attracts mosquitos
