Going by road to England

Post new topic

hellsbells365

Im looking to get a luton van and drive my furniture and cats back to England, it seems the only car ferry to genoa has been discontinued, does anyone know a route please? Also if I can hire a van here and leave it in the uk- or a firm that does removals for you? The shipping in a container the quote was 5400 euros- my furniture is not worth that much!!! Please anyone have any knowledge on this subject please.

Sell everything on maltapark.com and fly back with easyjet - it would be the most efficient solution.

The first ferry to Sicily costs around EUR 300 and then you need another one to Italy, pay for roads in Italy etc

Hi in the next few days I will be posting how our trip from the UK to Gozo
with ferrys and costs for us. We only got here 1 1/2 weeks ago. So this
should help you.  It's a long drive but cheaper than any way we saw and
we have a cat too. I will post as soon as I can x

Good evening, we would be most interested in your route from England to Malta. We have just received quotes for £7000 for a 40ft container and £5200 for a 20ft one. I am sure there must be a cheaper way.x

Naz23

Ok no problem. I will be posting on here in the next few days. As it really isn't clear
how easy it is to drive.
We drove with a small trailer and truck it cost us just over £3000
that  is including buying our trailer. So it's much cheaper!

Well maybe read my experience with ferry to Genova?

It should be in Transportation forum.

Cheers.

Thank you so much, are you coming in a car or a van?

hellsbells365

yes same quote as me appauling

It seems to be interesting that the reason for high shipping costs is due to low demand. However by the looks of it plenty of people want to move their furniture. Our quote was more than our friends 40ft container going to Oz! x

Try one of the car transport firms as they must travel back to the UK empty most of the time. They may be interested if you pack into boxes that they can carry on a car transporter.
You would probably have to arrange insurance etc yourself but its worth  a phone call.

I drove down last week, thoghu for me I just had the car (and 2 dogs)

I took euro tunnel on Tuesday morning, drove from Calais to genoa Tuesday and Wednesday , one stopover, had more than enough time, if you're on toll roads they a re quite empty, yes you pay tolls but makes the drive nice and easy

The Italian end has more hills, tunnels and bends than the French end

The overnight ferry genoa to Palermo , drove to accomodation in Sicily , next morning to ferry in pozzallo to Malta by 11.30am

Personally I wasn't keen on th genoa Palermo ferry, mainly due to all the hanging around, also with dogs I was more limited to what areas I could go. And the road in Sicily are not motorways, so tend to be slower even if empty

I too will probably post a more detailed version at some point..... 😉

Always worth a phone call :) We have received a couple of e-mails and the shipping companies have reduced their prices a little. We have someone who will take a half container over for us and we will sell what we don't take.

Hi! We are french , who are living in Malta to 6 months ago. We want to move us furniture and box to Nice ( South of France ) to Malta. Here , lot of people say me that the cheapper price is to move with people who come to UK in the same moving van. More people the UK come in malta than France. The idea is : You put your furnitures and more in your moving van and when you arrived in Nice , We put us furniture and a price is better for everything! Normaly a removal firm know this system. We want to move fastest. The people are interessted ? Thank you

Hi Could you PM me with the companies you got the quote off, I have quotes from £3600 + VAT to £5500 + VAT

I also have to get a quote from an owner driver who says he can deliver my goods in a 7 1/2 ton truck and stop in Malta and have a holiday before going back.

Many thanks

Ken

Hi,
Did you get a quote from your owner driver? And when will you move? A possibility to share costs ;-)
We need to move back to the uk and maybe he will be happy to take our goods back.
No furniture, mainly boxes.
Thanks
