It is very very easy to find stereo equipment. Same quality as you would find anywhere else.

You can buy from in Q.1, HCMC which has a complete range of international brand electronics companies.

Depending on what you want you can find stuff in Nguyen Kim ok (bit like argos for shopping) or there are some serious dj shops around for the higher end amps speakers etc.
Typically prices here are a little more expensive here due to the import taxes imposed, but still cheaper than you shipping it from the UK. If you want some bargains its often better to go shopping in HK or Singapore. They may not appear cheaper on the face, but for the same prices you are getting the latest kit.
Not sure how important that is to you regarding amps etc. but worth thinking about.

I just got my system for NguyenKim in HCMC yesterday, and it was quite a good choice. Best is to take a VN speaking friend as it would be easier to communicate. There's also a Bose showroon in District 3 if you are looking for the brand . All major brands are available and the prices are pretty ok.

NG Kim is also a good choice because return, replace or refund is possible. Be careful, not possible at many other places.

Thanks! Having had a look at the Nguyenkim website it looks like there are some good speakers there but I might have to go elsewhere for a higher end amp. Do customs charge if you bring something like an amp back with you from HK or Singapore?

No problem at all as long as your not bringing in a dozen at a time. But you really should have no trouble finding just about anything you need here in Vietnam.

Depending on what type of equipment you have. I moved here from the USA 7 months ago, and is regretting not shipping my sound system. I wouldn't recommend that Nguyen Kim store. I went there once and left immediately because of their inattentive services. They seems to lack a variety of premium choices.I think they are snotty because they think they are better known than other store.

There is a couple of HiFi store in Ho Chi Minh City. I am doing some research currently to get a new Home theater system. If you want better equipment be prepare to pay for full retail prices. I had a Yamaha RX V3080 and Monitor Audio Silver series speakers when I was in the US. I gave them to my son. But had wished I have shipped them here. I bought them used in the States. If I were to put together another similar system. It will cost me at least $4000. USD. Shipping was under $500. if I had shipped my receiver, 6 speakers, sub woofer and my computer equipment among a few boxes of items.

If they hv what you want, Lazada is by far the best VN online 'mall' store (but NOT for any good hi-fi!). prices are good. and they do return and refunds with no problem at all very quickly

avoid Shopee like the plague. the exact opposite.
