uh hu, it depends on your taste, it does have a bad smell, but I think It is good, you should try someday
If it smells so bad to you, why would you want to try it???
Curiousity has killed many cats...
Doesn't hurt to try it, try just a little bit... Then a bit more, then a bit more. If it grows on ya, the smell can become pleasant rather than smelly
It has a texture and the creamy taste like an avocado. However it is very bitterly sweet. No harm trying!

lol, most of my friends call me "kitty", and at least when I was curious to try eating durian, it didn't kill me at all.

Now, that is someone who knows a thing or two about crossing the cultural divide.

I was just being sarcastic...

lol, I'm just kidding, I know "curiosity killed the cat" is a quote.
Rachel Bowman,
A lot of north Vietnamese, like Funnybear92, don't like durians. However, once they get the hang of this fruit, they like them a lot more than south Vietnamese...
A lot of Asians don't like mustard and A1. But, once they get used to them, they can't live without...
As it happens, I travelled back from Ben Tre with 2 durians in the car today. One of my party got them from a road side stall.
Supposedly the golden rule is don't transport them in closed vehicles, but this caused no comment from the 3 VN in the car.
Yes, the smell was noticeable, but cloying more than anything, and I soon forgot about it.
Of course you should try some if you are curious, rather than ask. They taste nice if they are good quality.
Or you can mix it with dark coffee and ice. It smells better for who can't stand at the first time and for sure it ll give you guys a great flavor but still keep the original taste

Does it smell only when cut open or is it smelly in general ?

lol, haha. You should try it yourself then you can answer this question I live in the North and Durian is a popular fruit in the South and I've never tried it anyway
I don't like the smell of durian. However, some of my friends said to me that it tastes good ^^
lol, haha. You should try it yourself then you can answer this question
I'll try and see if they sell it in Bahrain , but i have a strong feeling they probably don't (customs would send it back if it smells that bad
)
But it does look like a smaller version of jack fruit..

haha, sounds like you love Jack fruit? I love it too (I reputedly you love it ). Anyway, it has been so long since I last ate Jack fruit, oh I miss that taste too muchhhhhhhh
No No, it doesn't look like a smaller version of Jack fruit. You should see it in the real life, not via internet, so you will see it's quite different from each other
haha, sounds like you love Jack fruit?
Well Jackfruit is sweet but its quite soft too and when eating it, you feel like choking on it. Its quite a chore to remove it as i've seen it being torn open and the contents emptied on a plate.
Once opened, you have to finish it as it doesn't taste good if left unattended.
I've seen in Asia, it gets distributed in the village to alot of people as there's plenty to go around

Oh I see, but there are 2 kinds of Jack fruit: varikka and Koozha. Are you sure you've ever tried eating both of them? I only love to eat Varikka
there are 2 kinds of Jack fruit: varikka and Koozha
I didnt know there were two types of jack fruits
I learn something new everyday
Are there different varieties of Durian

lol, what a funny question, I have no idea to answer it as I told you I'd never tried durian, and it's not familiar to me, so... I'm sorry, I cannot answer your question but I can GOOGLE it and give you a feedback if you still need my answer!!!

Actually, I ask because he's not a native English speaker, so his merely coming from Australia doesn't compute.
Anyway, durian is not for me (my political answer, lest I offend someone). Unlike cheese, which tastes better the smellier it gets, durian tastes exactly like what it smells like. And I'll leave it up to everyone to decide what that scent is.
In Indonesia I have seen signs asking not to bring durian into the building as the smell can get through the airconditioning system
I love durian icecream.
LastinTranslation, who isn't the English native speaker?
"durian tastes exactly like what it smells like" Not really (and I don't mean the clumsy grammar!).
It is good mixed into things as said above.
Jack fruit is different. I really like it. Beautiful trees too.
I dont understand why as durian smells great I prefer the non Thai one as that is rather bland. The Malaysian wild ones are the best, a deep yellow and full of flavour.
But I like smelly French cheeses too and I have sophisticated tastes as I wasn't brought up in junk food.
of course seen westerners vomit after eating it. What a waste
When I worked in Indonesia, the area had heaps of durian trees. These were considered to be the best in Asia for flavour.
Koreans would fly over and go there to buy them by the sack full and send home. Some Koreans had been coming to the same place, meeting up with the same villager for many years and had first pick of the crop.
When you are trying new food, taste with a pinch of the food.
Dont try to gobble like the locals who are accustomed to the taste. I have introduced durians to many western friends who are addicted to the King of Fruits now.
BTW durians are very personal in taste. There are many different varieties.
Try it. At least you can describe the personal "horror" rather than hear-say! Afterall, it is part of your journey!
