We don't live in Istanbul but have visited many times. Hopefully you'll get a reply from expats living there. We're the same age as you but have no children. As far as I can see, 'street smart' is all it takes, as in any other city of the world. Have you ever visited Turkey before? I'm sure you're going to really enjoy it.

As for you being American (we're Brits by the way), we get many American visitors to this part of Turkey and they aren't treated any different to any other nationality. 'The guest is everything,' is a saying here. As a foreigner, you are a guest.  I hope you're going to be pleasantly surprised with your move to Istanbul. Good luck with it all.

We are looking for a school for our children who are 11 and 13.

I got offered a position in Istambul in engineering, and I wonder how is the level of life in Istambul. I read that is quite high. Anyone would sugest a recomended salary to ask in order to have a confortable life standard?
