French Citizenship

Post new topic

Hi,
I am looking into the possibility of acquiring French citizenship through my grandmother's citizenship who was born in France and emigrated to Canada as a child with her parents. Has anyone else tried to used this type of ancestral connection to obtain French citizenship either with or without success?

Hi!

You will need the "certificat de nationalité française" of your grandmother and you will have to produce this document to la prefecture of the place where you live.

The procedure is quite lengthy, but this administration is keen on making new French citizens.

Best regards,

Em

Thanks for your reply. So have you done this yourself or is it a procedure that you know about? If you have done it yourself, can you tell me which country you emigrated from? Thank you.
Mike
